Background of Project Unity

Project Unity was conceptualized in 1993 when Bryan ISD Parent Educators realized that underserved families in poverty faced barriers obtaining assistance from numerous agencies. Vulnerable families, particularly at low income levels, usually have multiple issues that must be addressed to achieve self-sufficiency. Traditionally non-profits and family serving agencies focus on a single-issue, such as housing, health care, counseling, etc. The result can be a fragmented, cumbersome system of service that is difficult, if not impossible for vulnerable families to navigate.
